Who would have thought?
HA! 3 years people.....3 YEARS! I signed up to start this blog thing thinking I was going to be able to sit down weekly and write about all the fantastic happenings in our life. BAHAHAHA! Well lets just fast forward - I'm starting over....I'm going to try and do my best from here on out! I heard from a friend from back home recently...our conversation went a little something like "are you still breathing?" "did you fall off the face of the earth?" "are you still making jewelry?" That I am- still living and breathing an still making jewelry....just slowly.... in fact this blog post has taken me 3 weeks to write- yep....3 weeks! Im excited to fill you all in and bring you up to date.
As many of you know we had one of the hardest yet joyous year in 2017. We lost Joes mom unexpectedly in February which flipped our world upside down. She left BIG shoes for me to fill here on the farm, we are reminded daily of her by many things and miss her so so much. Just as we started to find that new normal, we added our sweet baby boy Sutton Alexander in June. (Right in the middle of summer show time!) He was a great little traveler and made many appearances through fall at many shows. Harvest was long and a bit of a disappointment this year as we suffered through a drought. I started teaching my 3rd of dance in October. We finished off our year celebrating holidays and spending great quality time with all our family.
January 1st I relocated my dance and fitness studio to my "own" space on Main Street here in Chamberlain! (yep I do that too) For the past 3 years I have taught dance and several different fitness classes. Each year our program continues to grow and I have doubled my numbers each year- right now we are close to 70 dance students who partake in 10 weeks of class with a spring recital and a few community performances. The new studio took many afternoons and nights of painting and scraping floors, cleaning and set up! We are busy holding new classes and programs and getting quite the buzz at our new place! It was a special (and challenging) year teaching as Rainie was in the 2&3 year old group and spent much time at practice with me. We continue to hold weekly fitness classes and monthly dance activities and are gearing up for 3 weeks of dance camp this summer.
Preparation for spring planting has started once again on here on the farm (as I look out our window today at snow falling) . I often refer to this time of the year as "Single Parenting Season" non the less it comes and goes and we all manage to survive!
I'm excited to be backing make jewelry in the studio here at home as it got put on hold for a while when much of my focus was on the dance studio. I have many new pieces I am working on and getting so pumped for my first upcoming show the end of April in Brookings (check our Junk Jam!) We have applied to many summer shows and hope to see many familiar faces this year!
That's all for now!
Steph
